Hello Reader,
Over the last few weeks we've talked about cash. Checking it weekly, not monthly. Knowing your real number before you commit to a spend. That habit tells you where you actually stand, right now.
But there's a question that habit doesn't answer. Where are you trying to get to?
Most business owners have written a plan at some point. Goals for the year, maybe a few priorities. Then three months later, it's sitting in a folder, and normal life has taken over.
Here's what I see all the time. The owner blames themselves. They think they lack discipline, or they got too busy. That's rarely true. The real problem is usually simpler.
A plan written once a year has nowhere to live day to day. It sits outside your normal week, so your normal week just carries on without it. Same with cash, if you only check it once a month, you find problems too late to act. A plan works the same way. Check it once a year, and it's already out of date by the time you look again.
Think of it like a diet plan stuck to the fridge. Reading it every few weeks doesn't change what you eat. What changes it is a habit built into your actual day.
That's not a discipline problem. It's a design problem.
This is exactly why I built the Business Planning Operating System. Your weekly cash check tells you where you stand. This gives you the weekly rhythm that tells you whether you're still heading the right way, and adjusts it when you're not.
Before you do anything else today, find that plan you wrote and forgot about. Open it. Just look at it for two minutes. Don't judge it, don't rewrite it, just see what's still true and what isn't.
That's step one. We'll build from there.
